Airlocked Test Drive

Since we know a lot of people are ready and eager to start playing around in this setting, welcome to the first ever official Airlocked Test Drive! For this test drive, we do have a posting format:

In the header of your comment, put your Character's Name and their Champion title. You don't have to put in the canon if you don't want, but you can if you feel the need.

And the guidelines we ask you to follow are, please try to include at least one prompt in your top-level to reply to, and if you make a top-level try to tag out to at least one other person. We want everyone to get a chance to give their choices a fair shake, after all.

Here are some examples to get you started:

A - Arrival
You wake up in a bed that's not your own, in a shiny chrome room that has bright fluorescent lights that light up along the floor as soon as your feet hit it and glowing sconces on the walls. Whether it's much different from what you're used to or not different at all, it's time to figure out where you are and more importantly, whether you're alone.

B - Mealtime
Well sweet, at least there's a cafeteria! But wait, it seems like there's only hot food during certain times of day. The rest of the time if you go foraging in the kitchen you can find weird silver packages with the name of food on the side that...definitely don't seem big enough to hold the food in question. If you open it up, it seems oddly dry...

C - Zero G
A zero gravity room! Awesome! The walls and floor are textured to give you something to hang onto to crawl across back to the control panel, but if you're floating in the middle of the room you might need someone to give you a push.

D - Holo Deck
A room where all your dreams come true. Kind of. In a photorealistic display of light and sound.

E - Anything else!
Or Create your own!

This is not an official reserve, nor does it guarantee a slot in the game, but if you do choose to app a character that you test drove, you can use two minimum 20-comment threads or one minimum 40-comment thread (so at least 20 total comments from your character) in place of writing a sample. So have fun with it!

Maybe somewhere here there's a greenhouse room with fresh vegetation. Or some lab animals to make a small meal out of. [He's not holding his breath for a space farm, with space pigs, and space chickens, and space cows, for space slaughtering. He doesn't have to be a rocket scientist to see the potential problems of that.] Though I wouldn't recommend eating lab animals. Who knows what might have been done to them.

Ugh yeah, no way. Unless I was at least at a 50% chance of getting a cool mutation.

[He sighs]

Though, honestly... even more then the food? I would kill for some actual sunlight.

... not really of course. You know what I mean.

This station might be parked close enough to a star to get the equivalent out of some window. Otherwise, hopefully these lights will have to do the job.

[He seems like he's going to lapse back into quiet--smalltalker Shadow is not--but his curiosity is annoyingly piqued.]

Why sunlight?

I dunno it's like...

[He ponders for a moment, like he can't decide how to explain.]

As long as there's an outside, somewhere beyond where I am? There's always a chance to be somewhere else. Like no matter how bad it is, if there's more of the world out there, it's still worth trying to get through whatever is going on.

I guess I just really don't like feeling trapped.

Nobody likes feeling trapped. What you're describing sounds more like...a physical reminder of hope, something visual to tether you to your next step forward.

[ding fries are done would you like an apple pie with that - Shadow twitches an ear in the direction of the oven timer he'd set, though his gaze remains on Hibiki for a few moments longer.]

What if we were stationed in orbit over Earth? Would that be enough? Or would you still feel trapped?

It'd be... better? Not great, but better. People get desperate without hope. Do things they normally wouldn't.

[this place is proof of that]

Thought getting to see the Earth from space without all this being trapped stuff? Man... that'd be amazing.

It's definitely a sight to behold. [Before everything had fallen apart, it had been one of the only sights to behold of Earth he had. Sure, books, photos, videos, verbal descriptions, those were all fine, but it doesn't replace actual experience.

He moves at last to the oven and pops out his packet, holding it delicately by a corner and peering inside.

It...well, it looks slightly better? Not quite what he'd call 'edible', but it's not a freeze dried brick of...stuff that's meant to at some point be food. Just a somewhat soggy brick of stuff that's meant to at some point be food. Baaaack in the oven it goes.]

There's a room for holographic light projections. It's incredibly detailed, if you let it. It won't be the same, of course, but it might stave off some of the desperation.

Or make it worse. [He's not an optimist okay and also people are generally kind of shitty.]

Oh yeah, I've seen a few people using it.

... I dunno if I could. I wouldn't want to leave.

There is that danger. That you're aware of it, I think, might make it less likely. [He could recreate Maria and Professor Gerald with stunningly lifelike accuracy. He also knows better than to torture himself like that.]
